To cope with the changing and challenging world, employers emphasize lifelong learning programs for the employees, but most of the time, it does not give the result as expected. The main reason behind this is the traditional planning process. A simple upskilling program will not provide the absolute effect that the technological and strategic changes demand. Now, the employees need to face new types of challenges, and if they are not creative enough to find the solution to meet those challenges, they will face difficulties in handling them.
It has also been found that the employees are not participating in these skill development programs to learn or develop their skills. Instead, they are doing this out of fear from the employers. So, ultimately the effect is not as expected.
Research shows that lifelong learners are passionate about their work and love to do their job. Developing this passion among the employees is quite a difficult task. Many employers can also not come out of the traditional way of working and insist that passionate workers keep their passion out of their workplace. But the time has come to change this outlook as it has been observed the passion only drives us to lifelong learning and gives a much better impact on our work culture. Those who are passionate about their work will be the explorers who would like to face unexpected challenges. They take these hurdles as challenges, and that excites them to find the solution to these challenges. They feel bored if they are not facing any new challenges in their workplace. When confronted with new challenges, they will seek the help of expert hands that will give them better answers, and thus new ideas and innovation will come up.
Study shows that people who work with passion bring out a much better result than those working out of fear. But, unfortunately, the percentage of passionate workers is much lower in adults than in children. If we watch children in the playground, we can find critical elements like curiosity, creativity, willingness to take risks, connecting to others, etc. The number is so low in adults mainly because most of us do not want to come out of the traditional way of thinking and feel comfortable in this comfortable working zone.
To cope with these problems, employers must allow the workers to face new challenges and handle the situation more freely instead of giving every instruction on how to deal with problems. The employees need to move beyond the fear and cultivate the passion of explorers that lies inside them.
