Leaders – Stop Trying to be Heroes

Leaders are always projected as someone to whom we turn for all our problems at work. They are cast as the Heroes of society.

But the role is changing; the mindset is changing, the function is changing. A leader is a solution provider to all our problems and someone with whom to be connected.

What is the new role of a leader?

Leaders are someone who can provide a solution to all the employees as well as the management. This role is what we know until now. But with the changing situation now, everything is changing. Due to COVID 19 pandemic, now we have frustration, unrest everywhere around us. People are suffering, frustrated due to increased economic crisis, fear of losing jobs, fear of losing near and dear ones, etc. They need mental support along with the other solutions. Now, the leaders have to take care of this aspect also.

What is the new role of the leaders?

The leaders need to get connected to their team members by being good listeners rather than good speakers. They need to create a connection with the people. There is a common fear that this might become a problem for the leader.  Conventional wisdom is that you do not bring your issues to work. But that mindset needs to be changed. Come out of it if you want to prove yourself an effective leader in the present scenario.

What stops you from becoming an effective leader?

There are many reasons which stop the Hero leaders from changing to Effective leaders.

Act like an actual human:

The fear of changing the way of handling the team members as a leader to taking them with humanity becomes a big no for many leaders. They do not want to come out of the conventional beliefs and expectations. They fear that they might look weak, vulnerable. They also fear failing as it needs to be connected with emotions where they might not succeed. We are all shaped by our parents, teachers, the environment, and the social and religious views around us. This shaping only decides how we are going to see ourselves, others, or the world. But we need to do the mind shift, and nothing is impossible in this world.

How to do the Mind Shift?

Think about it, ask yourself, is it true, relevant? Listen to your inner voice and check whether you are ready for this change or not. Make your mind shift from a logical, analytical process that is related to conventional thoughts. But, first, reimage yourself and start working towards it. This new thought of changing should be so strong that in no way can you fall back into those old thought process again.
