Three Differences Between Managers and Leaders

When working with the companies, we become accustomed to the word “Managers” as we might be operating under them or holding the position by ourselves. However, the term “leader” is in the limelight now, and many companies promote leaders more than managers.

These two terms do not bear the same meaning and need to be understood with proper visions.

Let’s take a look at the three main differences between Managers and Leaders.

Managers are counting values, and leaders create values:

What do we understand by values? When a group of people works under you, how are you going to value them? Are you simply adding the values as per their performance or trying to improve their performance? If you count the values, you are a manager, and if not, you focus more on creating the values, then you can be labeled a leader.

How can we create the values? Very simple, put some responsibilities on your team members and see how they handle it and improvise themselves in overcoming the difficulties and winning the situation.

Managers sometimes even try to reduce the value by demotivating or distracting those who have the potential of adding vales.

A manager will have Circles of Power, but a leader will have circles of influence:

A manager is handling his subordinates, but a leader will have followers by his influence. But, of course, there is a sharp difference between these two. The subordinates work for the manager out of compulsion or fear of losing their job. Still, the leader will have followers by the influence of his motivation and work, and sometimes the people who turn to leaders for advice maybe not be related to them. This relationship is how the leaders create the circle of influence with no limitation, whereas Mangers have limited circles of power.

A manager will manage the work, but a leader will lead the people:

The manager uses the power and control to make a group of people work and achieve their targets. So it can be termed as managing the job. But a leader will never use power or control; instead, they will influence and inspire people to work for the success of the companies. They motivate the people to bring the best out of them, which gives a much better result for any company in the long run. If you are working for a company with your passion and love for the job, you are well motivated. Then definitely you will become one of the assets for the company.

If we take examples of true leaders like Mahatma Gandhi from India, their inspiration and motivation drove the Indian people to fight for their independence and ultimately brought success.

So, the leaders should be inspirational, have a broad vision, and convert the challenges into opportunities without losing focus.
